In the province of Brescia, at the "Conventone" of Darfo Boario Terme, a new museum will open to the public, entirely dedicated to Franca Ghitti. The Camunian artist who transmitted to the world the language inherited from the signs, graffiti and traditions of his Val Camonica, in a completely original way,
«An important “preview” of what will take shape as the complete Franca Ghitti Museum will be inaugurated on September 23rd», states Maria Luisa Ardizzone.
An exhibition that will give the visitor a precise idea of the artist's varied and notable production.
"In the new Museum – anticipates Elena Pontiggia – the artist's works will be brought together, within the chronological path, to show the expressive story of an artist who has never repeated herself but has always invented new subjects, with inexhaustible creative force".
The Museum will not only be the nucleus of the artist's main works, but also aims to deepen and enhance her work. To this end, it will become a study center in which Franca Ghitti's archive will be preserved, containing the artist's writings and unpublished "notebooks" and her private library.
With this objective, on the occasion of the opening of the museum spaces, a double day of studies is scheduled on 23 and 24 September, curated by Elena Pontiggia and Fausto Lorenzi, in which important critics and scholars on the international scene will take part, such as:
Ara Merjian, art historian, New York University; William Klien, art historian, New York University; Micol Forti, director of the Contemporary Art Collection of the Vatican Museums; the philosopher and writer Alessandro Carrera, University of Houston; Marco Meneguzzo, art historian, Brera Academy; Elena Pontiggia, art historian, Polytechnic of Milan, author of the most complete monograph on Franca Ghitti; Cecilia De Carli, art historian, Catholic University, Milan, and Arianna Baldoni, curator of the artist's general catalogue.
“The objective that the Municipality of Darfo Boario Terme and the “Archivio Franca Ghitti” Foundation set themselves – states the Mayor of Darfo Boario Terme, Dario Colossi – is to reach the completion of the museum itinerary by 2025. It will be a living museum, which will offer moments of meeting and reflection, with the intervention of artists, writers, intellectuals, also called to talk about contemporary art and the most relevant issues of the moment."
Franca Ghitti's art has found space at the production plants of the Lucefin Group on numerous occasions, with some installations reproduced in the publication "Iron Memory - Memoria del ferro", published by Mazzotta Editore with our support.
“… waste, sheets, iron wire, rolled products, bars and semi-finished profiles
appear to me to be wrecks and must remain real.
It's not a rediscovered memory, it's just a wreck that lives alongside others,
and perhaps it has within itself the potential for a new gesture.
What matters is that it is saved
so that it can speak to someone who can understand..."
