Trafilix involved the “Maria Ausiliatrice” Catholic Primary School of Piancogno (BS) in the “STEM IN GENDER” project promoted by the University of Brescia, with the support of Comunità Pratica - a group of Brescian companies of which Trafilix is part - and in collaboration with the Chirone Association.
The project was born to promote gender inclusiveness in science and rebalance the presence of women within STEM careers and professions (science - technology - engineering - mathematics), offers educational courses dedicated to students with the aim of breaking down stereotypes that can hinder the free inclination of girls towards STEM disciplines and future careers in those fields.
The classes of the “Maria Ausiliatrice” Catholic Primary School were involved in three days of educational activities and playful-experiential workshops.
With an approach to gender inclusion in the learning of scientific subjects, the operators of the Chirone Association led the students to discover the life and research of two great scientists, to learn about the characteristics of some metals and to experiment, playing with a woolen thread, how a network of neurons works.
At the end of the project Federica Giorgi, responsible for the quality certification sector and sustainability manager of the Lucefin Group, captured their attention by explaining the phases of steel processing. On this occasion the young participants showed great interest and curiosity, sharing their parents' roles in the local steel companies, a bond that recalls a rich and fascinating tradition in the history of Valle Camonica.
The “STEM IN GENRE” project continues in numerous schools and will involve over 200 classes and almost 4000 students from elementary schools in the province of Brescia.
