RIGHT TIMES, WITHOUT THINKING ONLY OF DIRECT RELATIONSHIP - INTERVIEW WITH PRESIDENT GIORGIO BUZZI

We report the interview for Il Sole 24 Ore to our President Giorgio Buzzi in the article "From father to sons, for 12,000 SMEs the first generational transition". The generational transition experienced by the Lucefin Group is presented as a model for small and medium-sized enterprises that will have to face this important change.

«Our generational transition began quite by chance», recalls Giorgio Buzzi, second generation of the Lucefin group, specialized in the cold transformation of steel. The Group was born fifty years ago, in 1973, founded by Luigi Buzzi, the entrepreneur who passed away last year and father of Giorgio. Now that the turnover has exceeded 300 million euros and the employees are more than 600, Giorgio Buzzi has chosen to give a configuration that protects the company from any risk, in the event of traumatic events or in the event that his children, still at an early age, decided to follow different paths. Talking about his story, Giorgio Buzzi recounts that five years ago he faced the real transition with his father and then, last year, he chose to remain as operational president and to manage the company which today has two CEOs, one for the holding company and one for the steel sector. He arrived at this design through a 27-year journey inside the company. «When I joined, I asked my father to be able to have a dual role, with responsibility for human resources and union relations because I wanted to build the future framework and bring in those talents who would later become key managers, with qualities in line with our values. This was crucial in the generational transition». When he recalls it, Giorgio Buzzi does not hide his esteem for his father's charisma and personality, nor the complexity of the generational dialogue. «I have always tried to have my independence, but the delegation was more on paper». By working side by side, certainly "the father-son conflict relationship can be exacerbated, but I have tried to grasp the positive aspects of my father's example". The key to the generational transition «is knowing how to wait for the right time and not thinking that it has to happen within the span of direct kinship. Everyone must be able to understand what the characteristics of children and grandchildren are and that being an entrepreneur is not like being a manager".
